Saskia Mascitti

MEZZO SOPRANO

Saskia Mascitti is a Melbourne based mezzo soprano. She found her inspiration to study classical voice as an 11-year old, when she performed in the Children’s Chorus of Opera Australia’s Turandot.

A member of the Young Voices of Melbourne for a number of years, and a regular successful competitor at Eisteddfods, Saskia performed in many productions with the Victorian Opera and joined the Victorian Opera Youth Choir Ensemble in 2016. This provided various unique performance opportunities including workshops and masterclasses, singing at the Greenroom Awards (2018) and performing in Youth Operas such as Play of Herod (2014); Grumpiest Boy (2015) and Four Saints in Three Acts (2016). More recently, Saskia performed a lead role (Gwen) in the Victorian Opera production of Second Hurricane in 2017 and participated in the chorus for Magic Pudding (2018) and Parsifal (2019): experiences which have proven incredible opportunities to explore the growing capacity of her voice.

In addition to this, since 2015 Saskia has also been a member of the Opera in The Market Chorus which provided further insight into operatic choral repertoire. She joined Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School in year 12 which provided opportunities such as a solo performance in Vivaldi’s Gloria, a choral performance at the Herald Sun Aria, and a solo performance at Government House.

Thanks to her multicultural heritage, Saskia is fluent in Dutch, highly skilled in French, with a working knowledge of Japanese and basic Italian. Now a first year music student at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, and an Opera Scholar for 2019-20, it is with great excitement that she looks ahead to what the next year has to offer.
