MEZZO-SOPRANO
Sidra Nissen is a mezzo-soprano from Melbourne, Australia. Her performing life began at age thirteen in the Victorian Opera Youth Chorus Ensemble (VOYCE) where she participated in various Youth Operas. Following this, Sidra was accepted into the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School in 2017 where she furthered her musical studies. In 2021 sidra was awarded a ‘Bachelor of Music entrance scholarship’ from Melbourne University. In 2022 Sidra received the award of the M.C Middleton Scholarship from the University of Melbourne for her high standard completion of her voice exam in 2021.
In August 2022 Sidra made her operatic professional Debut with Victorian Opera’s production of ‘Il Mago di Oz’ as an ensemble member. She also competed in the 2022 National Liederfest competition where she was awarded second place (Robert Salzer Foundation scholarship) as well as the Ian Field memorial award for best German diction and understanding of German language. In 2024 Sidra was awarded first place at the Janet Perkins Vocal Scholarship and first place at the Madame Bursary Foundation Scholarship hosted by the Lyceum Club Melbourne.
Upon the completion of her Bachelors degree, Sidra was awarded a variety of Scholarships from the University of Melbourne which included: The Murray Ormand Vagg Scholarship, The Muriel Cheek Memorial Scholarship, The Walter Kirby Singing Scholarship, The CG William Bequest, The Ormond Exhibitions Scholarship and the Orloff Family Trust Award. This year Sidra is excited to be part of Opera Scholars Australia’s graduate program and further her musical development by learning from world renowned vocal coaches both interstate and internationally.
