SUPPLEMENTARY
Melbourne-based soprano Leah Stange is an accomplished young artist with a strong passion for musical theatre, opera and chamber music. A recent graduate of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, Leah holds a Bachelor of Music Performance (B.Mus.) and is commencing her Honours degree as of 2026, continuing her studies under the tutelage of Carrie Barr.
A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, Leah was lucky enough to have premiered Deborah Cheetham's "Magalu Gaangu", as the soloist, at the Melbourne Recital Centre in 2022 as well as being invited to perform a selection of repertoire on 3MBS FM’s "Classics" program.
In 2025, Leah was awarded first place for her recital at the Margaret Sutherland Bursary Award competition, hosted by the Lyceum Club Melbourne. During her undergraduate studies, Leah has been generously supported through numerous awarded scholarships including The Ellinor Gertrude Harris Bequest (2023) and the Mabel Kent Scholarship in both 2024 and 2025.
She was a dedicated member of the Victorian Opera Youth Chorus (VOYCE) for four years, where she performed solo roles, including Second Woman in Dido and Aeneas and Aeneas in Clemenza di Tito. Leah recently performed in the University of Melbourne’s production of Massenet’s Cendrillon, where she had the privilege of working closely with Australian director, writer and performer Johanna Allen as well as Opera Australia’s chorus master and conductor Paul Fitzsimon.
Beyond opera, Leah has a love for chamber music, participating in vocal ensembles at the University of Melbourne and leading her own ensembles. A highlight for Leah has been her performance of the Brahms' trio for voice, viola, and piano at the Australian National Academy of Music in 2024, as well as her performance in Victorian Opera's "Five Fridays in November" concert series alongside soloists Katherine McIndoe (soprano) and Brenton Spiteri (tenor).
Leah is delighted to return for her second year in the Opera Scholars Australia program as a supplementary scholar.
