SUPPLEMENTARY
MEZZO-SOPRANO
Melbourne based mezzo soprano Mia Koutsoumidis began training classically at the age of fourteen and has continued to develop her operatic technique throughout high school and a Bachelor of Music Performance at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne. She is now undertaking a Master of Opera Performance, where she is preparing the roles of Arnalta and Nutrice in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, Carmen in operatic scenes from Bizet’s Carmen, and Lady Beetle and cover Emma Echidna in The Victorian Opera’s The Lyrebird’s Voice.
With over a decade of Musical Theatre experience and extensive dance training, Mia has won multiple Musical Theatre competitions across Melbourne, including Eisteddfod by the Bay, the Boroondara Eisteddfod and the Ringwood Eisteddfod.
Mia is passionate about exploring a variety of performance avenues, including jazz and cabaret vocals, and has pursued leading acting roles with Oz Kids Network, SAE Institute of Film & Television, JMC Academy, Bravada Films, the Victorian College of the Arts and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
Mia is eternally grateful for the support of numerous scholarships provided by the University of Melbourne to continue her training, including the Muriel Cheek Memorial, Graff Family and Walter Kirby Singing Scholarships, and the Grace Durling Encouragement Award. She is honoured to be a part of Opera Scholars Australia and is thrilled to be learning and creating with such a beautiful team of people.
